The Prosecutor's Office of the Donetsk People's Republic has approved an indictment in the criminal case against Laurynas Baltrūnas, a 49‑year‑old citizen of the Republic of Lithuania. He is charged in absentia under Article 359, Part 3 (participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

According to the investigation, in March 2022, Baltrūnas entered Ukraine through a Polish border checkpoint, underwent combat training at training grounds, and was issued personal firearms and ammunition. Thereafter, until May 2026, he participated as a mercenary in the armed conflict in the ranks of the International Legion and the 475th Separate Assault Regiment of the Ukrainian Ground Forces against servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the Donetsk People's Republic.

For his actions, the mercenary received remuneration of more than 4 million rubles.

Baltrūnas has been placed on the international wanted list, and the court imposed on him a preventive measure of detention in absentia.

The criminal case has been sent to the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic for consideration on the merits.
